Every Halloween, Rosalind Ashcroft lights the candles, sets out the chairs, and asks the dead to speak. It has always been theatre. This year she wrote to each of her guests with one line: "This Halloween I mean to let Edmund finish what he started to say." Her brother has been a year dead at the bottom of the tower stairs, and the inquest called it an accident. The candles were lit at eleven.
